a bit of socrates' metaphysics...

Metaphysics covers a wide range of things, but how can it be determined for sure what exists?
you might say anything that can be detected with any of the 5 senses would be acceptable...
but then what about bacteria? Or even the planet Pluto. none can be seen directly, especially not by philosophers from many years ago. so would by saying the 5 senses classifies things would cause for bacteria or distant planets to be considered non-existant, right?

a commonly accepted way for determining the existance is anything that can be proven as existing does exist.

wanna know something interesting??

numbers do not exist because they cannot be proven as existing. numbers are not real.
While The concepts behind mathematics are the same in different countries, saying one two three is not the same as uno dos tres.

A number is simply a representation behind something that does not really exist, much like time. Numbers and time were created by people. There is nothing natural about it. They were both created to help make life easier and to use in daily lives to convey information and data, and to help other people understand what you want.

now isn't that interesting? ;)

[[this was made up of bits and pieces of an essay i wrote for my philosophy class i had this last semester in college :) ]]

Yep, very interesting. Sounds like your cranking those old brain juices. It is said that we create our own reality, and in that vein many things can exist and be real.
