Yesterday I was flipping through the t.v. channels and it was a program about the Challenger explosion. I had wondered if they had more film about the accident than was being shown to the public at the time and obviously they did. It showed where the leak was occurring from the O ring and they mention the gauges at this point. There is a brief photo of the cockpit of the Challenger and you can see two different astronauts in the forward seats. It
is easy to see that the craft is getting jolted around quite a bit. Then it states there was a bright flash when the awful explosion occurred...it then shows the whole thing just disintegrating into many large pieces as it uses all it's momentum up before falling back to earth. They even had a distant but clear enough shot of the debris falling into the ocean as it broke apart. Sadly, it mentions how 3 of the 7 astronauts had time to put their oxygen masks on but it is believed by this time that the cabin was surely depressurized. It was interesting to see but horrible at the same time. A senseless accident that was waiting to happen and it could have likely have been avoided if the right people had paid attention.
